District Disability Rehabilitation Centre

The District Disability Rehabilitation Centres (DDRCs) were established from the Year 1999- 2000 with active support from the state Governments. The DDRCs are now set up and funded under the Plan Scheme “ Scheme for Implementation of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (SIPDA)”- an umbrella scheme under which grants-in–aids are provided to State Governments and various other bodies, set up by the Central and State Governments, including Autonomous Bodies and Universities, to support activities.

The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India was pleased and sanctioned the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh for which Uma Educational & Technical Society, Kakinada, is an Implementing Agency. The District Disability Rehabilitation Centre, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh is fully established and has been working for the cause of action for the Rehabilitation and welfare of the persons with disabilities at all levels from May 2011 onwards. It has been implementing its evolved schemes and services for the welfare & Rehabilitation of the persons with disabilities through both center and as well as community based environment. It has been imparting the services to the needy persons with disabilities such as Physiotherapy. Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Psychological interventions, Mobility & Orientations programme, providing suitable aids and Appliances etc.,

Since inception, District Disability Rehabilitation Centre, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, has been providing several services for the Welfare of persons with all categories of Disabilities such as Loco-motor disabilities, Visual Impairment, Speech & Hearing Impairment, Mental Illness, Intellectual Disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Multiple Disabilities, Leprosy Cured, Learning Disabilities etc. In order to provide well & effective services the Centers making all its sincere and necessary efforts to empower the persons with disabilities at all levels/stages.

District Management Team

In order to implement the Services of DDRC, The District Management Team was formed for which the District Collector & Magistrate, East Godavari District is the Chairperson, while Assistant Director (Department of Differently abled, Senior Citizens and Transgender Welfare) is the Nodal Officer on behalf of the District management Team and Executive Director, UETS, Kakinada is the Implementing Agency for which Sri. S.P. Reddy, Executive Director is the Nodal officer and the other District Officers namely District Educational Officer, District Medical & Health Officer, Project Officer (Samgra Shiksha Abhiyan –SSA), District Sports Officer, District Employment Officer, Project Director (DRDA), and Project Director (Women & Child Welfare) Department East Godavari District are the members. The District Management Team reviews the work of the DDRC periodically and advises accordingly wherever it is necessary.

The District Disabilities Rehabilitation Centre is fully equipped with the latest therapeutic equipment and delivering the services for the cause of action for the persons with disabilities at Centre. The Centre has delivered services to 1337members of Persons with disabilities through various services like Identification, Screening and Assessment etc. during this financial Year i.e. from April 2019 to March 2020. The Table: 01: shows total number of disabled person’s category wise to whom the services were provided at center base level.

This Centre is offering the following services for the Persons with disabilities:

  • Prosthetic and Orthotics
  • Psychological
  • Audio logical
  • Orientation and Mobility
  • Referral
  • Promotion of Barrier Free Environment for PwDs
  • Awareness generation
